SOUTH MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee County Supervisor Patricia Jursik and South Milwaukee Mayor Tom Zepecki are pitching a plan to extend the 794/ Lake Parkway all the way to Racine County.

"You create a thoroughfare all the way through Milwaukee County into downtown," said Zepecki with enthusiasm. "So, you have this attachment to the cultural events and businesses that are downtown."

South Milwaukee's Common Council is expected to vote on whether to support the Parkway extension and ask the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission to begin a formal study at the next Council meeting.

The expansion would follow the existing railroad corridor from Cudahy, along South Milwaukee, through Oak Creek to Racine County. Zepecki says no homes would be lost to eminent domain.

The Parkway would come very close to Dan and Penny Kurszewski's new Oak Creek home.

"Well I would prefer to not see a freeway when I look out my back window," Penny Kurszewski said. "That was one of the reasons that we chose to build here is that we have a great nature preserve behind us."

But Dan Kurszewski loves the idea of expanding 794.

"I think it would be great because of the amount of time it would save my ride home," said Dan.

The South Milwaukee Common Council meeting will take place Tuesday night at seven in the Common Council Chambers, 2424 15th Avenue, South Milwaukee.
