Snow Preps at Mitchell International

By Jay Olstad

MILWAUKEE - When the snow falls in Southeast Wisconsin, one of the next questions is, 'Can I fly'.

"I'm hoping I'm going to get out tonight," said Tim Counihan. "And if I don't i don't know what I'll do I'll just go back into the city and spend another night."

He was flying out of Milwaukee for Boston Monday night after visiting his son. There's a very good chance he won't be delayed because this coming snowstorm will be light, long, and steady, say forecasters.

But Mitchell International Airport says it will be ready for anything by maneuvering workers' schedules around to get travelers up and out.

"And in a case like this, everyone is going to be working a little extra on their shift. We got all the equipment for the duration of the event," said Pat Rowe, airport spokesperson.

And while Mitchell International Airport prepares for the big snow storm there are some travelers who are flying right into another one.

"We are delayed a couple hours," said Ann Ketterhagen.

She's flying back into the heart of another snowstorm out east in Baltimore.

"My husband says they have 30 inches of snow," she said.

So while Ann will miss out on much of the clean up here in Milwaukee, she's not escaping Mother Nature all together.

"So they'll be trying to shovel out of the drive way to pick me up from the airport," she said.
