MILWAUKEE - Summerfest celebrates its 40th anniversary this year with presents, not to itself, but for fest goers.

Summerfest starts Thursday and runs through July 8.

Some of the promotions offered this year include:

Free admission on July 8, the final day, from noon until 4 p.m.
The first 4,000 visitors receive a serving of cake and ice cream. Those who register in the Miller Lite Oasis area could win commemorative Summerfest cell phones or party packages. The grand prize is a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Free concert tickets, Summerfest gift cards or free admission tickets given out randomly to fest goers wearing 40th Anniversary Commemorative T-shirts.
Smile Squads will spot wearers three times a day.

Participation in Country Music Television's Summerfest series.
The network will produce four programs highlighting various artists. Festival goers can be a part of the audience.

Re-entry on the ground's north side for festival goers who wish to walk the new Lakeshore State Park.
Previously, the closest most people could get to the land east of the Summerfest area was through hitting a golf ball there, in the hopes of winning a car. Now the parkway is open, and festival goers can get leave the grounds to explore it and re-enter on the ground's north side.
