Man Dies in Construction Accident

By Jay Olstad

MILWAUKEE - Investigators with the Occupational and Safety Health Administration are investigating a fatal construction accident.

Milwaukee Police say a 45-year-old man died Monday when he fell from an elevator shaft on a construction site at 159 N. Jackson Street.

Witnesses tell TODAY'S TMJ4 the man, who was working with Patulski Concrete out of New Berlin, fell head first about 30 feet, dying instantly.

"They're just fantastic group of guys. Everything they did, they went by the book," said William Dossett.

Dossett works construction next door and says safety is always paramount for the workers.

"Everything was clean, they did snow removal, they did everything proper," said Dossett.

So far, investigators aren't saying if the man fell because of the winter weather but Dossett wouldn't be surprised if that's the case.

"In Wisconsin, it's tough. You wear the right clothes and do the safety things. You can see they got rails up there. They're very careful," he said.

But now he and others are mourning the loss of one of their own.

"It's a real tragedy, a real tragedy. I feel sorry for them."

Police said  the death does not appear to be a criminal matter.
