Local NewsOconomowoc High Schoolers Learn the Gift of GivingBy Diane PathieuMilwaukee- It's an example of the spirit of giving. Those that have, giving to those that don't. 100 students from Oconomowoc High School were very busy unloading hundreds of gifts to young students at Milwaukee’s Westside Academy. And these gifts meant the world to them. "We have children to adopt in a sense, at school we have their name, their favorite color, things they like to do," says Annie Welsh, a senior. But it's not just toys for these tots; "Different things they might need uniforms, mittens, none of the kids at this school have boots…" says Welsh. They are essentials these kids should have, and now, they do. Plus it’s a big eye-opener for these high school teens; "you don't realize how much you have until you realize how much kids need…" Welsh admits. Through fund raising efforts, and even money from their owns pockets, the Oconomowoc students learn a valuable lesson, "It’s so different from Oconomowoc lifestyle we don't get these kinds of opportunities to go out and experience see different sides a different perspective around the holidays." And make a big impact in the lives of kids that need it most.
