LODI - He took a bullet during the military massacre at fort hood. He even stared down the man who killed 13 people.

Twenty three-year-old Grant Moxon of Lodi is a mental health specialist with the 467th Medical Detachment in Madison. He was shot in the leg by alleged shooter Major Nadal Hasan. Nearly three weeks after being shot, Moxon's leg remains bruised. He limps, and walks with a cane.

"The bullet's still lodged in my leg," he said. "I'm usually stiff and sore throughout the day."

But despite the pain, Grant feels he's one of the lucky ones. He survived by playing dead. But the gunman killed three members of his unit.

"They were friends of mine. They were really good people. We had a lot of good memories with them," he said." "It's kind of hard to get over."

But he's trying. Instead of deploying to Afghanistan with his unit, his injury forced him to return home to Lodi.

"It's kind of bittersweet to be back," he said.

But he said, facing down a killer and surviving taught him a lot, including being grateful during this season of thanks.

"I definitely have a lot to be thankful for," Moxon said. "I'm alive!"
