Local NewsComplaint Details Suspect's Child Pornography “World”By Tom MurrayKENOSHA - Investigators claim they found enough child pornography in an apartment to put a Kenosha man in prison for the rest of his life. 56-year-old Kevin Derks is accused of turning his home into a child pornography fantasy world. He told a judge he’s been unable to get help from his own family.
“So far, I'm not able to do that,” Derks said in court Monday.
The newly released criminal complaint details what state agents discovered inside the apartment.
They found every flat surface covered with porn, including walls, cupboards and shelves.
There were adult and child size mannequins set in sexual positions, a poster of Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen with hand-written, lewd sayings and erotic DVDs featuring children as young as four.
“In speaking with some of the agents who have been doing this for 20 years, they say they've never seen anything like this,” said Rosa Delgado, a prosecutor with the Kenosha County District Attorney’s office.
Perhaps most disturbing to parents here, state agents uncovered pictures and videos of girls playing on Kenosha's public beaches.
Standing 30-50 feet away, Derks told investigators he took pictures of kids using a binoculars-style camera.
“I wouldn't really want that to happen to my kids because that's really nasty and wrong,” said Amy Gonzalez, who has three children.
Scratches on Kevin Derks face were visible during his Monday court appearance. He says he fainted during questioning under the stress of being caught. Derks hit his head and went to a hospital.
"I knew what I was doing,” he allegedly told a Kenosha police officer. “I took a gamble. It’s like going to Vegas. Except, I lost everything.””
Detectives also found an arsenal of shotguns, pistols and revolvers, some of them loaded.
Derks said he had his apartment here decorated with those weapons before he got into child pornography 10 years ago.
