Repeat Drunk Driver Sentenced in Homicide Case
RACINE - Martimiano Montano will spend 10 years in prison for killing a man while driving drunk.
Montano's blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit when he crossed over into the wrong lane and hit David Penkalski head on. Penkalski, the father of five, was on his way to work.
Penkalski's wife, Karen, says she understands the 10 year sentence was the best she could hope for, still she does not think it is just.
She urged the judge to send a message and believes tougher punishments are necessary to send a message about drunk driving. "You need to scare people," she told reporter Lauren Leamanczyk. "You need to scare people that if they even get stopped, they're going away."
