Hundreds Remember Amy Krueger

By Mick Trevey

KIEL - More than 500 people gathered to remember 29-year-old Amy Krueger who was killed in the shootings at Fort Hood.

The group met at The Gravel Pit bar and grill in Kiel Sunday night. They formed a procession that included motorcycles, military vehicles, and hundreds of people who walked and carried candles. The Gravel Pit bar was a meaningful start for the vigil because Krueger played in a pool league there.

"This is unbelievable, I can’t believe this," said family friend Rosanne Coffeen.

The group went to Veterans Park where they prayed, sang, and shared memories about Amy Krueger.

"We come here to honor a person, to preserve a memory, that of our dear sister Amy Krueger," said Pastor David Mercer of Saint Peter's United Church of Christ.

During the candle light vigil, Krueger's cousins stood in a circle to sing Amazing Grace. Kiel's mayor also spoke about how much Krueger meant to people in Kiel.

A spokesman for the family said they are waiting to get more information about when Krueger's remains will arrive back in Wisconsin. Once they learn that information, the spokesman said they will plan a funeral that will likely happen this week.
