Local NewsTeen Sells Name on EBayBy Elizabeth Braun, Scott SteeleSHEBOYGAN - Desperate times call for desperate measures. These days could hardly be more difficult for almost a fifth of all Americans who are unemployed or underemployed and trying to survive. It doesn't get any more personal for one young man in Sheboygan. Unemployed and up against a wall-19-year-old Calvin Gosz felt his frustration level finally hit the limit. Then like a light bulb he lit up with an idea, offer one of the only things he owns, his name, for auction on eBay. Gosz says, "Walking around I met someone named Mercedes and the idea just kind of popped into my head, "You know if someone can have a car company name for free, why wouldn't McDonald's pay for me to have Ronald McDonald as a name?" Gosz moved from Florida in September-submitting more than a dozen job applications to no avail. "I guess it just kind of goes to show the desperation of some people to try and get some money if they can't find work." He seems less concerned about what the high bidder will name him. "Maybe something funny like Darth Vader." Times are tough you gotta do what you can to get by. The minimum bid is $5,000. So far, there haven't been any takers. |
