Man Takes Justice Into Own Hands
RACINE - A Racine man got a wild ride. He caught three people stealing from his storage unit so he jumped in their getaway vehicle and put up a fight.
He chased them, fought them and helped police nab them.
"I knew if these guys escaped, they were gone," says Don Lockwood.
He and his 17-year-old daughter showed up at their Caledonia storage unit last Thursday only to find three people emptying it out.
"I had enough. I'm not going to be robbed, victimized. I'm not going to sit here and watch them do this," says Lockwood.
Lockwood called 911, and then confronted them. Police say the suspects retaliated by attacking Lockwood then took off in a truck. Lockwood jumped on the truck and hung on for dear life.
His daughter Kirstin adds, "That's when I was concerned something really bad was going to happen."
The suspects beat Lockwood to the ground, just as police arrived to arrest them.
Antonio D. Pealer, 32, Cindy L. Gutche, 40, and James N. Hagen, 42, are charged with the crime.
Lockwood discourages others from doing what he did because it's so dangerous but he does stress the importance of calling 911.
