Local NewsTeen Dies in Crash with Manure SpreaderBy The WTMJ News TeamFREDONIA - Steven R. Casarez, 19, died when his pickup truck smashed into the back of a manure spreader in northern Ozaukee County. Casarez was from the town of Holland in Sheboygan County. A passenger in Casarez's pickup, James N. Myers, 17, from Cascade, was injured and taken to Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital - Ozaukee Campus in Mequon by Northern Ozaukee Ambulance. The crash happened at 11 p.m. Wednesday on Jay Road, just east of Highway 57, according to Captain David Guss of the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Department. Both the pickup and the manure spreader were in the westbound lane on Jay Road at the time of the accident. The manure spreader was being pulled by a tractor. The driver of the tractor, Daniel C. Golownia, 33, from Belgium, was not hurt. The tractor was stopped in the westbound lane when it was struck from behind. Golownia was getting ready to turn into a field to spread a load of potato mash for his employer Lakeside Foods of Belgium. Fog may have been a contributing factor in the crash. |
