Greenfield to Hold Swine Flu Clinic Thursday

By Heather Shannon

GREENFIELD - Greenfield will hold a swine flu clinic Thursday at City Hall. But not everyone who wants to get vaccinated will be able to.

Greenfield mom Julie Rome wants her 10-year-old daughter Ashley to get a swine flu vaccine.

"I think all children should at least be able to be vaccinated," Rome said.

But Ashley won't be in line at Thursday's clinic. Only people in the target group will get the vaccine: kids between the ages of 6 months and 4 years, older kids with pre-existing medical conditions, pregnant women, and health care workers.

The Greenfield clinic comes just one day after the Milwaukee Health Department announced two people died this past week from swine flu.

"These are unfortunate events, not surprising or unexpected. They represent the fifth and sixth deaths, respectively, in the city of Milwaukee since H1N1 was first identified in the spring," Paul Biedrzycki of the Milwaukee Health Department said.

But it's hearing sad news like this that makes Kelly wish even more that her children could get the vaccine.

"I don't want to end up in the emergency room, or have them sick, or end up hospitalized because of it so a little frustrated with the fact that we can't get it," Rome said.

The clinic will be open from 9 a.m.-12 p.m., and from 2-6 p.m.  The city will hold another clinic on Friday from 8 a.m.-11 am, and 1 p.m. -4 p.m.
