Central High School Sign

West Allis Meningitis Death

Charles Benson

WEST ALLIS - A West Allis Central High School freshman died Monday from bacterial meningitis. The health department is not releasing any other information about the student. TODAY'S TMJ4 has learned he was a member of the track team.

A letter went home to parents warning them that a student had contracted the bacteria. The school is trying to find students who may have come in contact with the infected student

Officials say there is no connection with a Kenosha high school student who died last month from meningitis.

While tragic, health officials caution death from meningitis is rare and there is a vaccine.

Parents with kids at West Allis Central said one thing over and over again, "What a tragedy."
