Local NewsFiery Crash Rescue near OconomowocOCONOMOWOC LAKE - It is hard to imagine anyone walking away from the burned wreckage. But five young men are alive today, thanks to strangers who found them by accident. "I said hey, we've got to get you out of this car. There's fire. There's fire. The car is burning." Ray Lavoie and his brother Robert were visiting Wisconsin from Michigan. Early Sunday morning they ended up on Pabst Road after getting lost on their way back to their hotel. That's when they saw a young man flag them down. "I saw that his face was... I would say rather bloody. He looked like he was holding his arm up, like he was obviously in pain," Ray explained. The young man led them to a car, burning in a ditch. An injured teenager was sitting in the back seat. "My brother and I were like... 'This guy's going to burn to death. We've got to get him out of there.' Rob grabbed the left shoulder and I grabbed the right shoulder and we pulled him out of the vehicle," Ray said. "Very heroic. Just incredible what they did, said Lt. Andy Helwig of the Oconomowoc Lake Police Department. "They were able to get the two remaining passengers out of the back. It could have been much worse. They were true heroes. I'm 100% those two passengers would have burnt in that car." Five people - a 21-year-old man, a 19-year-old man and three teenage boys - had been in the car. All alive today, thanks to the impeccable timing of strangers. Alcohol may have played a role in the crash. Three of the teenagers are still in the hospital. They are all expected to survive.
