Local NewsFamily Adopts Dog Shot in FaceELLSWORTH, Wis. (AP) -- A dog that was shot in the face and locked inside an Ellworth mobile home has been adopted. Bloody paw prints led a Pierce County deputy to the home Aug. 11, where he found Samantha with half her lower jaw missing. Veterinarian Heather Fairbairn says Samantha showed no aggression to doctors and only wanted to "lay her bloody face on someone's lap." Fellow veterinarian Becky Behrendt and her staff performed multiple surgeries on the dog, believed to be a 1 1/2-year-old German shepherd mix. Larry and Kim Tapager of Ellsworth at first agreed to give Samantha foster care, but have now decided to keep her. A woman who lived in the mobile home told police the dog was uninjured when she left her, with the intention of coming back for her. No charges have been filed. ------ Information from: St. Paul Pioneer Press, http://www.twincities.com (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
