Kohl's To Close Falls Distribution Center
MENOMONEE FALLS - About 250 workers for Kohl's will be affected by the shutdown of its distribution facility in Menomonee Falls.
The shutdown is scheduled for January 29th, 2010.
Workers at the facility have the option of taking a severance package or move to a distribution center in Ottawa, IL or one of nine other distribution facilities.
The severance package allows workers to receive pay for two weeks per year of service, two additional weeks of vacation and other work-related benefits.
The company was hoping to expand, and it could not devise a way to expand its Menomonee Falls distribution center, so they chose to move its workers and inventory to other facilities.
"There aren't 250 good paying jobs around here," said TIm Steager, who said he was disappointed with the decision.
The inventory at the Menomonee Falls center will move to Ottawa, Illinois.
"Things are hard enough the way they are, and now, that is going to add to it," said Jason Beno, who also reacted to the news.
Kohl's announced on October 8th that total sales for the company for its fiscal September had risen 9.6%. On Sept. 30th, it also marked the grand opening of 37 new stores, including 30 in California, but no store expansions in the Midwest.
