Squad Crash Splits Second Car in Half
STURTEVANT - A Sturtevant police officer and a driver were hurt Saturday morning when the officer's squad car crashed into another car.
It happened at highways 11 and H in Racine County at 1:44 a.m.
The officer was responding to a call to assist another officer when the crash happened. The squad car's lights and siren were on.
The impact split the civilian's car in half. The front of the Ford Contour stayed on Highway 11, but the rear half of the car ended up on a nearby lawn.
The officer was treated and released. The other driver was taken to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa. His condition was not released.
The officer was wearing a seat belt. It's not known if the other driver was strapped in.
The accident is under investigation.
The Racine Sheriff's Department has not released the names of the people involved.
