Customer Thwarts Bank Robbery
WEST ALLIS - A 54-year-old man prevented a bank robbery Tuesday by tackling the suspect. It was all caught on tape.
The alleged robber, Senister D. Smith, 21, is charged with armed robbery. The tape shows Smith entering Guardian Credit Union wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a mask. He hands each teller a note. Police say the notes demanded money and said he had a gun and would use it.
That's when the customer sprang into action. Police have not released his name, but he jumped on top of Smith and held him down until police arrived. Authorities say he did so to protect his wife who was also in the bank at at 11220 W. Oklahoma Ave.
The bank's president, Steve Wesson, says he's never seen anything like this. "We just can't thank him enough. He stepped up at a great time and thankfully no one was injured," Wesson said.
