WAUWATOSA - Two young men were arrested at Mayfair Mall Friday night after a struggle with police officers. Mayfair Mall officials confirmed one of the suspects had a gun.
According to the Wauwatosa Police Department, Mayfair Mall security spotted an 18-year-old man with a gun concealed inside his coat in the Champs sporting goods store.
Nearby police officers heard a description of the suspect and tried to stop him on the second floor of the mall.
The suspect appeared to reach for his gun and that's when the officer started struggling with the suspect.
The armed man, Andrew M. Greenwood, was charged Sunday with:being a felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, resisting arrest and possession of marijuana.
Two eyewitnesses told TODAY'S TMJ4 reporter Michael George that they saw the men fighting with officers outside of the GameStop store. Witness Heidi Wilson said one officer grabbed a gun off a suspect, removed the magazine and threw it down to the first floor of the mall.
Several store employees heard what sounded like a gun shot when the gun landed on the floor. Three or four stores in the mall locked their gates and kept customers inside until they knew what had happened.
The Milwaukee Sheriff's Department also sent squads to the scene to assist, but they were unnecessary.
There was no gun shot and there were no injuries.
The 19-year-old man arrested with the suspect will probably not be charged, according to police.
