MILWAUKEE - We first met 46-year-old Ann Schrader when she was arrested during an undercover police sting operation Thursday.

Saturday, the Mequon woman faced a judge for the first time. In her initial appearance, Schrader pleaded not guilty to prostitution charges. Somber but composed, Schrader entered the courtroom and did not say a word during her brief appearance.

Schrader is accused of using the popular Web site craigslist.org to solicit sex for money. Police Lt. Thomas Welch said this case is straight forward.

"This case should be easy," he said confidently. "We'll have testimony from our undercover officers, we'll have evidence off the Internet."

Schrader has served time in the past for prostitution and drugs but claimed she turned her life around. She even started her own ministry called "StretcherBearers," that helps give former inmates a second chance.

Now it's Schrader herself who may need another chance.

"Unfortunately, it's going to affect her professional career now, it very well could. It's a sad case," Welch said.

Schrader was set free on a $1,000 bond. Her next court date is in March.

TODAY'S TMJ4 was on hand when Schrader was arrested during an undercover operation Thursday.

She was placed in Milwaukee County Jail Thursday night.

Undercover officers said Thursday that she told them about her day job after her arrest.

Schrader's organization claims to help inmates make a safe and successful re-entry into the community. But now she herself is behind bars, and it's not the first time.

Schrader appeared to be a model of rehabilitation. Her online profile says her faith helped her overcome her problems, which led to her work with the Stretcher Bearers Ministries.

Detectives say she is cooperating with the investigation.

"She was upset but she wasn't aggressive. She wasn't a fighter. She cooperated, and after she was mirandized she confessed," says Lt. Welch.

No word yet on what Schrader's arrest could mean for her ministry. Nobody answered the door at the ministry office. Phone calls to the organization were not immediately returned.
