TRUE Skool is Positively Milwaukee

By Gary Reistad

MILWAUKEE - This Friday (July 17) a pilot program kicks off at 1606 W. Washington Street. The goal is to make our neighborhoods better. It's called "Adopt a Community" program and it's sponsored by TRUE Skool. The group hopes to stop the decay of local neighborhoods.

It will take a three-step approach. First, there will be clean up and graffiti removal. Second, includes landscaping and gardening. Third, introduces public art. "

Sarah Patterson, Executive Director, TRUE Skool, Inc. notes, "A lot of kids are referred to us because they have had graffiti related offenses. Our goal is to redirect their talents into positive things."

TRUE Skool will start by improving the area around Cesar Chavez Drive and Washington Street. Patterson points out, "Our students will be working on redoing the mural to a positive theme that really talks about the history of Cesar Chavez drive"

TRUE Skool hopes to unlock a passion where people take pride where they live and neighborhoods become a better place for families and kids. Patterson sums it up best when she says, "Our purpose is to heal and transform communities through art."
