Two Ozaukee Banks Robbed in Four Days

By Heather Shannon

OZAUKEE COUNTY - Two frightening bank robberies in four days.  Both in broad daylight on busy streets.  Both in quiet Ozaukee County.

"At this time we have no idea if these two are connected at all," Mequon Police Captain Dan Buntrock said.

An armed suspect robbed Cedarburg's Commerce State Bank on Monday.  Police said the suspect was talking to an accomplice on his Blue Tooth as he locked employees in the bank's back room.  He also left a fake bomb behind.  Police believe he fled to a waiting getaway car.

The suspect in Thursday's Bank Mutual robbery on Port Washington Road in Mequon used a gun to threaten bank employees into giving him cash.  He fled on foot into the woods behind the bank.  Police with guns drawn and the K9 unit out, searched the woods and neighborhoods for the suspect.  He is still on the loose.

“We came home around 2:30 and we saw the police cars at the end, and we didn’t know until 3:04 what had happened," Mequon resident Anita Puza said.

At 3:04, Mequon Police sent an emergency recorded call to everyone in the neighborhood to give them a suspect description and to warn them to stay inside with windows and doors locked.

Both of the suspects remain on the loose.  Both Cedarburg and Mequon police departments are asking anyone with information to call them.
