Local NewsWoman Sentenced for Cell Phone CrashBy Elizabeth Braun, Melissa McCradyMILWAUKEE - A woman who caused a deadly crash while talking on her cell phone is going to jail. A judge ordered Tracey McDonald-Iwunze to serve 90 days behind bars and 3 years probation for that deadly crash. Prosecutors say she ran a red light because she was talking on her cell phone. Now a Wauwatosa woman is dead and her family devastated. Kathy Marjawa was killed 9 months ago Thursday when McDonald-Iwunze ran a red light near Mayfair Mall. Prosecutors say she was speeding and talking on her cell phone when she barreled through the intersection, hitting and killing Marjawa. Chris Larson had proposed to Marjawa just a few weeks before the crash. "Just when I think I'm turning the corner and getting better I say, 'No I'm not doing very good," Larson said. Tracey apologized in court Thursday. "I would like to apologize to her family. I'm so sorry for causing you so much pain." A judge ordered Tracey to serve 3 months in jail. A sentence Kathy's family felt should've been more harsh, but they're trying to make the most of it. The prosecutor described McDonald-Iwunze as a good person who made a bad decision. It's a reminder to be safe on the roadways this busy July 4th weekend. |
