"Predator at the Pool" Out on Bail

By Mick Trevey

MILWAUKEE - The so called "predator at the pool" is out of jail on bail until his trial in October.  Prosecutors accuse Daniel Acker of sexually assaulting multiple boys over the course of many years.  He posted $100,000 to be released.

Greenfield Police say Acker photographed and sexually abused boys.  They say he met many of the victims through his work as a swimming coach and teacher in the West Allis/West Milwaukee School District.

Acker, 62, was also employed by Milwaukee County where he often helped treat mentally ill patients.

One of Acker's alleged victims, who requested not to be identified, is angry that Acker was released.  "I think it stinks," the man said.  "I think he should have stayed in."

Acker is not allowed to have contact with anyone under 18 under the terms of his bail.  However, a Milwaukee County judge granted an exception Thursday that allows Acker to have contact with his niece and nephew.

Court records show he lives at his condo in Waukesha.  Neighbors near the condo confirm Acker has been sleeping there.

One of Acker's alleged victims worries, "I think he's crazy enough to go after others."  However, Waukesha Police say they cannot notify neighbors or conduct increased surveillance near Acker's condo because he has not been convicted in court.  Acker's trial is scheduled for trial in October.
