WAUWATOSA - Police said Thursday that a roll of toilet paper was intentionally set on fire in a bathroom stall at Mayfair Mall.

Part of the shopping center was evacuated Wednesday night after customers reported seeing smoke.

The fire started in the men's room on the lower level, near the Panera Bread bakery-cafe and Sharper Image store.

A shoopper reportedly grabbed a fire extinguisher from the hall and put the fire out even before an emergency crew arrived.

There was little damage, but there was some smoke, and shoppers in the area were asked to move to other parts of the mall.

The source of the smoke was quickly located, the fire was put out and the section of the mall was reopened. Police are reviewing surveillance tape for further evidence.

The incident happened around 9 p.m., about an hour before the mall closes. No one was hurt.
