Girl Hit by Car
MILWAUKEE - Chaos inside and outside a pool Wednesday night. It ends with a young girl in the hospital after getting hit by a car. The girl was trying to cross the busy intersection of 40th and Galena when she was a hit by a truck. The driver never stopped. But the trouble started earlier with a fight at the Washington Park Pool. "She hit her head, she was moving," said eyewitness Melody Henderson Henderson watched it all happen at the intersection of 40th and Galena. “When it hit here it sounded like it hit another car," said a stunned Henderson. She says the 11-year-old girl was crossing the street with a large group of kids when she was hit. "It hit the little girl and knocked her in the air and she rolled over and hit the ground," according to Henderson. The little girl was on her way home from the pool at Washington Park. It was closing early after some unruly kids started throwing life guards in the water. There was also a fight in the pool parking lot as kids were leaving and police were arriving. Henderson says there were more problems when the little girl’s mother tried to get close and police where trying to keep her and a large crowd away "The people started going crazy because they saw how they were treating the mom," said Henderson. Neighbor Twannette Whitney says Galena Street needs a traffic light; it’s a dangerous intersection with people speeding. “It should be a wake up call for the city. There’s a lot of intersections like this and this one is traveled by almost everyone in the city from one end to the other.” The little girl is expected to be OK. Eyewitnesses say a neighbor was video taping the hit and run incident and that may help identify the driver. As of late Wednesday night, no one had been arrested.
