Flooding And Reported Tornado In Kenosha County

By George Mallet

KENOSHA-- A tornado reported west of Kenosha tore up some trees as severe storms moved through late Friday and produced downpours and street flooding. The latest storms hit less than 12 hours after severe weather and heavy rains caused flash flooding across much of southern Wisconsin. “This is the most water we’ve ever seen in any of the gulches,” said Lila Chubrilo after pulling off of Highway 31. “The intersections were filled past your bumper line.” The Kwik Trip gas station and convenience store on Highway 31 at 158 was forced to close after losing power. Employees were working furiously as a backup generator kept the lights on but not much else. “We’re trying to get those things that need to be kept cold into the cooler so we don’t lose any product,” said store leader Mark Anderson. Employees described a scary time when the storms were at their peak. “We didn’t have radio,” said Kelly Perryman. “We kinda just played it by ear. We got heavy, heavy winds, some hail. Just turned totally black.”
