Balloon Crash Victim Remains Hospitalized
WAUSAU, Wis. (AP) -- One of the five people injured when their hot air balloon crashed to the ground in Marathon County remained in the hospital on Monday.
The balloon's operator and four others lifted off at Rib Falls and headed across Highway 29 Saturday night. Crews on the ground warned the operator of changing wind conditions, so the operator decided to land the balloon.
Passenger Debbie Frane of Athens says the balloon pilot told them it would be a rough landing and to hang on. The balloon crashed to the ground, which caused the basket to tip. One passenger fell out and was caught under the basket as it skidded across the ground.
A hospital spokesman says four of the people were treated at Aspirus Wausau Hospital and released. Forty-three-year-old Laurie Konkol-Glodwski of Custer was in fair condition Monday.
