North Side Shooting Suspect Had Just Been Released From Prison

MILWAUKEE - Police say a man who allegedly shot two people on Locust Street Tuesday, had just been released from prison that morning.
It all happened so fast. Just hours after a gunman shot two people on the north side police got their man.
"Our officers were able to process that scene, interview the witnesses, develop a suspect and make an arrest within 12 hours," Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn told TODAY'S TMJ4.
"It's fantastic police work," said Mayor Tom Barrett. "And their tenacity, their professionalism, is what led them to make this quick arrest."
The shootings happened Tuesday night near 16th and Locust. Police say a 24-year-old man was shot and killed as he sat in his car. Then the gunman shot a 27-year-old man who was standing nearby. The man was hit in the foot, and is expected to live.
The alleged shooter had been out on the streets for only a few hours. "He was released from prison yesterday morning, and within 6 hours had managed to arm himself with a handgun and used it," said Chief Flynn.
The suspect was described as a black man, around 24-years-old. Police searched the area for him and were able to find him, Chief Flynn says, thanks to witnesses who came forward to help officers.
This is believed to be the 38th homicide in Milwaukee this year, compared to 27 at the same time last year.
