Local NewsAmbassador Hotel Jumps Ahead of the Smoke-Free CurveBy Diane Pathieu
MILWAUKEE - In a little more than a year, smokers won't be able to light up indoors pretty much anywhere. But, one local hotel is getting things started a little early.
It starts next month inside the Ambassador Hotel. No smoking, at all indoors.
Owner Rick Wiegand says they want to jump ahead of the law that
kicks in next year.
"Not just to be ahead of the curve but we thought it was the right thing to do," Wiegand says.
Especially for their customers, because the restaurant inside the hotel is so close to the bar, some people are bothered by the smokey smell that lingers, even the employees that smoke!
"They are used to going outside so why should they have people in the bar blowing smoke on them the whole time," asks Wiegand.
He agrees, he is a little concerned about how prohibiting smoking will affect his bottom line. But says he just knows this is the right move. "It was a gut feeling, we're going with our gut."
