Local NewsVideo: Dog Reunited with Family after Fire Destroys FarmhouseBy By Lauren Leamanczyk and Gary Reistad
FREDONIA - It only took fire a couple hours to destroy a Fredonia family's home and everything inside on Wednesday. But, just as they were at their lowest, a family pet gave them reason to hope.
George Bush, his wife and relatives were surveying the rubble. All of a sudden, Levi, their cocker spaniel came running toward the wreckage. They had all thought the dog died in the fire.
"Levi made it!" George said through tears as he swept the dog up in his arms. "Sammy's going to be happy to see you," his wife said as she kissed the dog.
Sam is the couple's teenage daughter. Just minutes earlier, George told said that his daughters would be devastated by the loss of the farm animals they'd raised for 4H and the family pets.
"For him to just show up like this is truly a blessing. My daughter is going to be really really happy," George said.
The old farm house on Jay Road had been in the family for generations. It was more than 100 years old. Firefighters believe the flames started in the garage, but they don't know why.
Despite the total loss, George feels blessed. "I feel extremely blessed because both of my kids are alive, my wife is alive and all of this means nothing without them," he reflected.
And now they have Levi too.
A fund has been set up for the Bush family. Donations can be made to westbury bank in Kewaskum.
The address is P.O. Box 520, Kewaskum, Wi 53040.
