FOX POINT - The robber went into the Cornerstone Community Bank in Fox Point around 10:00 this morning. He implied he had a weapon, demanded and got money. He went outside where a woman was waiting behind the wheel in the get away car. Tim Steck was working next door to the bank and thinks he saw the robber. "I saw somebody go inside the bank. I saw them come out in a hurry and then he took off. About two minutes later the police showed up. I'm guessing that he was the guy." During the robbery someone from inside the bank tried calling 9-1-1 but the cell phone kept dropping out. Later someone pressed the silent alarm and police were notified. The employees were able to give police a good description of the get away car. Moments later Fox Point Police saw the car going southbound on Port Washington Road. Fox Point and River Hills police stopped the car. in Glendale at Good Hope and Port Washington Road. Officers say that's when the suspect pointed a gun at them and they fired back. The suspect died at the scene and the driver was arrested. No officers were hurt. Drivers at the intersection saw the shootout. "I got to the intersection and I see the cops standing going bang, bang, bang! I hear right behind me pop, pop, pop! I'm going oh my God am I hit is my car hit. I was just freaking out," said Pam Bender. There were no shots fired inside the bank and no employees were injured. We showed home video of the shooting to Bender later in the day. She says it still shakes her up to see it. "To just see it real time, just shook me. Because what if it went horribly wrong and they would have said, 'Oh I'm taking someone down with me," she said.
