Local NewsBaby Found Dead In Daycare VanBy Courtny GerrishMILWAUKEE - A 4-month-old baby boy is found dead in a hot daycare van. The baby's family wants to know how the van driver missed this little boy. It is a family's worst nightmare. Thursday morning Jalen Knox-Perkins was picked up at home by a daycare van. The baby never made it inside the Bumble Bee Learning Center on 76th and Capitol. Jalen's grandfather, Keith Williams, asks, "How could you possibly... how could you leave a child like that?" The family claims Jalen was in the front seat of the van. His grandmother doesn't understand how he was missed. Remona Williams tells us her son signed the pick up sheet in the morning when he put Jalen on the van. Williams says the baby was never checked into the daycare. Jalen spent four hours in the van, in the daycare's parking lot. Sources tell TODAY'S TMJ4 when police got into the van it was around 100 degrees and little Jalen was all bundled up in winter clothes. It's not clear yet what caused the child's death. The high temperature Thursday was in the mid 50's. It's not clear if the temperature had anything to do with the death. As police continue to investigate, the Department of Children and Families closed the daycare. Alphabet Street Learning Center, just blocks away, has the same owner and was also closed. DCF calls this action necessary to "ensure child safety." The owner of both learning centers did not answer the door when we stopped by her home Thursday night. Now a family is left wondering why little Jalen had to die. "There ain't no explanation you can give me for that. No explanation," said Jalen's grandfather. There are currently two arrest warrants out for him in Waukesha County on unrelated charges. Jalen's family tells us the man was a substitute driver. |
