Puppy Mill Bill Proposed

  • Print
MADISON - Years of work by the TODAY'S TMJ4 I-Team is getting results. A bill to regulate puppy mills has been introduced in the state Capitol. Angela Speed of the Wisconsin Humane Society has been inside a puppy and says, “The facility that I spent time in twice had raised cages that were about three by three feet and they were suspended from the ceiling with wire floors. And dogs were living in these little boxes for months on end.” Speed says the bill will establish a licensing and inspection program to regulate commercial breeders. Anyone selling 25 or more dogs a year will be regulated. Wisconsin is among a handful of states with virtually no regulation to enforce basic standards for the care of dogs used for breeding. If you’re in support of this legislation, the Humane Society encourages you to contact your state senator.
