Craigslist Robber

MILWAUKEE - Craigslist is a popular Web site for buyers and sellers. But one Milwaukee man made a big mistake when he tried to sell his big screen TV. Police see a lot stolen big screen TV's this time of year. But if you try to sell a TV on line be careful. You may end up with a burglar instead of a buyer. He doesn't want us to use his name but he wants craigslist sellers to know his story. When a buyer expressed interest in a TV he was selling, he gave out his address. "So when I got home from work the window was broken," the man said. "He didn't take the TV I was selling, he took the TV in my bedroom." Big screens TV's are hot items. Burglars are not only searching Web sites for them, police say they're looking through your garbage even through your front window. Burglars are looking for big ticket items said District Seven Sergeant Alberto Riestra. He showed us large TV boxes in alleys ready for garbage pick up. "Burglar suspect will drive down look and you can tell what people have purchased by looking at the boxes lying on the ground," said Riestra. Another mistake, home owners unintentionally advertise their big screen TV in their front window. "The burglary suspect would know exactly what he could get if he gets inside, what he would need to get that TV out of that house," said Riestra. As for our craigslist seller, he tells people, "Don't give out your address unless you know they are for real." Police actually caught the craigslist robber. They say if you are going to meet a potential buyer, don't invite them to your house. Instead, find a safe neutral location to connect.
