Waiting List For DTV Coupons

By Lauren Leamanczyk

WEST ALLIS - The digital TV conversion will end on February 17 with the shutdown of all analog TV channels. Viewers who receive free broadcast television signals through antennas on television sets that are equipped with analog tuners - and who do not subscribe to cable, satellite or a telephone company service provider - will be affected by the shut off. They will need to buy a digital converter to continue to watch TV. The federal government has made $40 coupons available to offset the cost of the converter, but they have reached their budgetary limit. Anyone who has not already applied for their coupon will be put on a waiting list. As other coupons expire without being used, more will be made available. However, for many analog television watchers, that will be after the digital conversion. Digital converters can be purchased at most electronics stores and will cost between $45 and $70.
