Local NewsBoy Battles Cancer; Collects PostcardsBy Lauren Leamanczyk
JEFFERSON - Nine-year-old Connor Bourke has a rare form of brain cancer. But, the upbeat young boy has found a hobby to make him smile. Connor collects postcards.
"I like seeing the cool pictures in front of them and where it's from," he told TODAYS TMJ4 reporter Lauren Leamanczyk.
In just a few short months, Connor has amassed more cards than he can count. They come from all over the United States and several other countries. He has postcards from London, Paris, Bali, Iran and Turkey.
Connor's prognosis isn't good. He suffers from gliomatosis cerebri, a rare disease. He's been undergoing radiation and chemotherapy. Still, despite all the hardship, every day he opens the mail and has a reason to smile.
"It feels really nice and considerable because all these people are doing something and it's really making my life happy," he said.
Connor's mom, Liz Bourke, gets comfort from the postcards too. "Every time I hear of another person praying for Connor it's like another ounce of hope in my heart that we're going to beat this."
Connor got so many postcards he opened his own post office box. To send Connor a postcard, mail it to:
