Not Guilty Plea in Crash that Killed Teenager
OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) -- A Fond du Lac man accused in drunken-driving crash that killed a 14-year-old girl has pleaded not guilty to a charge of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.
Twenty-three-year-old Daniel D. Schaefer also pleaded not guilty Thursday to a misdemeanor charge of causing injury by the intoxicated use of a motor vehicle.
Prosecutors say Schaefer was driving the wrong way down a Winneconne highway Jan. 10 when he collided with another car.
Lacey Meinel of Schofield was a passenger in that car, returning from a figure-skating competition. She died the next day.
Prosecutors say Schaefer's blood-alcohol content was 2.5 times the legal limit.
Schaefer's attorney didn't immediately return a message Friday.
