Tues JS OnAir: MPS Violence-Free Zones
Journal Sentinel Reporter Erin Richards talks about the Violence-Free Zone initiative program.
She says it appears to be working. The program places "Youth Advisors" in the schools. The advisors either live in the community of the school, or are graduates of the high school themselves. They are paid to basically hang out in the school and befriend troublemakers and garner tips about brewing conflicts.
There has also been a reduction in suspensions.
