School Closed Due to Flu

MANAWA, Wis. (AP) -- The flu bug has hit particularly hard at an elementary school in Waupaca County.

Except for early childhood and pre-kindergarten classes, Manawa Elementary School will be closed for the rest of the week while everything from light switches to telephones are disinfected.

There are 250 children at Manawa Elementary. 50 were absent Wednesday. Another 15 students were sent home.

District Administrator Deb Watry says she talked with state and county health officials, who recommended closing the school for 48 hours.

Classes are still being held at Manawa's middle and high schools.
