Chief Flynn Celebrates First Anniversary
MILWAUKEE - Edward Flynn has celebrated his frist anniversary as Milwaukee's police chief and says he's pleased with the progress his department has made since he took over.
"We know we still have our work cut for us," he said Wednesday. "No one is claming victory no one is doing a dance in the end zone here. There's a great deal of work to do, but we think we've demonstrated that we're on the right track."
When he was sworn in a year ago, Flynn inherited a deparment in tumoil. Crime in the city was up, officer morale was down, and, in some neighborhoods, people simply didn't believe they could trust the police.
A year later, though, crime is down and Flynn insists morale is improving.
"The biggest accomplishment personally is that I have appeared to earned the trust of the members of this agency," he explained. "From their trust, there's a willingness to do the things we've asked them to try."
