Local NewsMU Students Clean Up MilwaukeeBy By Mike Jacobs and Shelley WalcottMILWAUKEE - Many students say it's one of the greatest lessons they learn at Marquette: Service to others. That's why more than 1,900 students and alumni volunteered to go out into the community and clean up Saturday. Adam Sharrett and 65 of his fraternity brothers joined in. "I got up early on a Saturday morning. It's perfectly fine with me. I'm really happy to be out here and I'm really enjoying it," Sharrett said. Hunger Clean-Up is one of the nation's largest one-day service projects. The 20th annual event has raised more than $290,000 for more than 80 local charity groups. Hunger Clean-Up is planned and coordinated entirely by students. Sherrie Tussler is with the Hunger Task Force and assists with the Marquette event. She tells TODAY'S TMJ4, "It teaches volunteerism to young people and the idea of giving back and participating fully in the community." In addition to the clean-up, students will also be collecting food through a letter carrier's food drive. |
