200+ Cars Towed In Snow Emergency

By Michael George

MILWAUKEE - It's that special time of the year again...towing season. More than 200 cars were towed on Friday because of the snow emergency. That means more than 200 drivers had a very bad start to their Christmas season. Ask people waiting at the Milwaukee tow lot about the city's parking rules. "I don't think my opinion can really be said on TV right now," said Justin McCulla. But like it or not, if you don't obey the rules, you will get towed. Three friends from Sussex were all towed when they visited a friend on the east side of Milwaukee. You can find out what the parking rules are in your neighborhood by going to the Milwaukee Dept. of Public Works Web site at http://www.mpw.net/Pages/parkingops.html. You can also call the Parking Operations number at (414) 286-8350. "We all parked down the street and woke up in the morning, and all our cars were gone," said Timothy Ball. All three paid $95 to get their cars back. Cayan Benjamin was just thrilled it didn't cost her more. "It cost $95. I didn't get a ticket, I just got to pay the tow fee, so I was excited about that!" Benjamin said. City officials say they need to tow cars during a snow emergency so emergency vehicles can get around town. They also say, contrary to popular belief, it actually costs the city more to tow your car than the $95 fee you pay.
