3 Sheboygan Friends Share $9 Million Jackpot

  • Print
SHEBOYGAN - Barbara Knauf and three of her friends are sharing a $9.1 million jackpot. Wisconsin Lottery officials said Friday that Knauf, Richard Duening and Curtis Lienau have filed paperwork in court to have the prize split equally among them. The three have played the lottery together twice a week for five years. Until earlier this month, they'd never won more than $100. Barbara says she couldn't believe it when her friend called to tell her they'd won the Megabucks jackpot. The three chose to take the cash in a lump sum. Each will clear just over $1 million after taxes. Barbara doesn't plan to splurge too much on with her winnings. Instead, it will buy peace of mind. "We're having a new baby in our family and if we have any medical emergencies that can be taken care of. The real important things can be taken care of with this money," Knauf said. She says this is her second stroke of luck in the last few years. Barbara's a cancer survivor; something she says is a far greater blessing than the lottery. "You now what, Lauren," she said. "I was lucky before I won the lottery." For selling the winning ticket, the Q-Mart at 2420 Calumet Drive in Sheboygan will receive $100,000. The owners plain to share it with their employees.
