Every day on Live at 3:00, we have a segment called “What’s Hot,” where we talk about stuff that really is hot, and we have you talking.
Friday on Live at 3:00, Newsradio 620 WTMJ’s Jeff Wagner and Susie Falk from Falk Group appeared to talk about whether gift cards are a good idea this year.
A Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel article says consumers are wary of buying gift cards this year because of the threat of stores and companies declaring bankruptcy because of the poor economy.
A Western Union poll says 65 percent of people would prefer to get cash as a gift instead of a present or a gift card. That’s up nine points from a similar survey question in September.
A bankruptcy court can grant permission for a company to honor gift cards, but without the approval from the court, gift card holders would be part of a large group of unsecured creditors in the bankruptcy case.
