MILWAUKEE – Holiday travel is in full swing.
Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving, is a day you’re expected to pack your patience, but you might not need extra time or that patience at Mitchell International Airport.
You may just need your bags!
That’s because travel at Mitchell International is mild Wednesday.
There was very little foot traffic Wednesday afternoon at the airport, and not a single delay was reported, mainly because most people are just staying at home.
Jessica Bettencourt got to the airport Wednesday in plenty of time.
“I insisted on leaving early. I thought there would be traffic – nothing. Here we are and we have an hour, plus to kill,” Bettencourt said.
There were no lines, no delays and very few travelers Wednesday.
That means Bettencourt and her family of five are starting their vacation stress-free.
“We’re happy. We’re gonna go browse, maybe go to Cinnabon, enjoy our vacation. It feels good,” Bettencourt said.
Not everybody is as happy.
Sue Sachdeva would rather wait in line if it meant a successful economy.
“I’m very disappointed that this is the economy and I feel really bad this is happening,” Sachdeva said.
It appears many travelers are finding alternate routes.
Discount bus service, Megabus, has sold twice the number of tickets than they did last year in Milwaukee.
Bettencourt says if she hadn’t booked her flight months ago, she wouldn’t be flying Wednesday.
“If we had to buy our plane tickets now, we probably would’ve just stayed home,” Bettencourt said.
Even though Wednesday is quiet, Sunday and Monday might be a different story. Those days are expected to be much busier than Wednesday, so you still might want to pack your patience.
