Local NewsSnow, Cold Could Mean Ice Monday NightBy Katie DeLong
ELM GROVE - Milwaukee and surrounding areas saw the first few inches of snow this season fall Monday morning.
Some of that snow melted throughout the day, but another freeze comes Monday night.
That means ice!
Some spent the day Monday preparing for the freeze.
The display of ice melter and salt was constantly restocked at Elliott’s Ace Hardware in Elm Grove.
People at Elliott’s Ace Hardware said Monday’s snow was enough to bring back memories of last year’s snow and send people into a buying frenzy.
People stocked up on salt and ice melt Monday. It's something people might need Monday night as temperatures drop and melting snow freezes, but there's also a lot of stocking up for later.
“People are reacting to last year's snow falls, and are coming in and being smart about it and getting everything early,” Jeff Reuteman from Elliott’s Ace Hardware said.
In fact, Elliott’s Ace Hardware says they're setting sales records this year, and they encourage people to buy now.
TODAY’S TMJ4’s Mick Trevey: “If people don't stock up now, is there a risk there won't be enough later?”
“Definitely, like I said, we're fully stocked now but the manufacturers aren't guaranteeing any orders that are going in. So we're doing the best we can,” Reuteman said.
To give you an idea of how high sales are, Elliott’s Ace Hardware has already sold 800 roof rakes this year. That number was 80 of them this time last year.
