Madison Police Chief's Son Arrested

By Katie DeLong

MILWAUKEE - The son of Madison's police chief was released from jail in Milwaukee Friday night. He was arrested Thursday, on suspicion that he may have stolen thousands of dollars from the cash register at the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum. Brent Wray, 24, is the son of Madison’s top cop: Chief Noble Wray. Police said Brent Wray took so much money that he could face felony theft charges: approximately $15,000. TODAY’S TMJ4’s Tom Murray went to Brent Wray’s Milwaukee apartment and got no answer. Tom also tried reaching Chief Noble Wray, recently named Madison Magazine’s Man of the Year. His department said the chief is away on a previously scheduled vacation, due back on December 1. Parents like Connie Schneider can’t believe anyone would steal from a non-profit, children’s museum. “You don’t want anything taken away from kids, period. It’s just like taking from our kids,” Schneider said. She just wants to know why. “What’s going on? What made you do that in the first place?” Schneider said. The children’s museum is not commenting now, saying that this is a personnel matter. Brent Wray has not been formally charged yet. The district attorney’s office says they are waiting for reports from the Milwaukee Police Department.
