Friday’s Sound Off Question: Should we spend $650,000 in taxpayer money to install bicycle racks on the front of Milwaukee County buses?
JSOnline.com is reporting bicycle racks for all 470 county buses should be installed by spring.
Supporters of the plan say the racks will boost ridership and reduce dependence on cars.
A budget veto override will allow the county to contribute $32,500 toward the $650,000 cost of purchasing and installing the racks.
The bulk of the cost will be paid from a federal grant.
Twelve other cities in Wisconsin, including Kenosha, Green Bay, Madison and Sheboygan, have bicycle racks on buses.
